The book presents the detailed and object records of highway bridge damaged induced by “5·12” Wenchuan Earthquake and in-depth studies thereof. The book includes twelve chapters. Chapter One introduces the bridge damage survey scope, method and classification standard. Chapter Two first introduces the overall bridge damages in the disaster areas of Wenchuan Earthquake, bridge damage status of afflicted roads and regional distribution features of bridge damages and then introduces, respectively, seismic damage features of simply supported girder bridge, continuous girder bridge, arch bridge and continuous rigid-frame bridge and analyzes the seismic damage status of major components for different bridge types, using the statistical method, induces and summarizes the seismic damage characteristics of highway bridges during Wenchuan Earthquake. Chapters Three ~ Ten introduces respectively the bridge damage status of eight highways within the area of Sichuan Province and seismic damage phenomena of typical bridges. Chapter Eleven describes the seismic damage status of highway bridges and seismic damage phenomena of typical bridges within the areas of Shaanxi and Gansu. Chapter Twelve collects some municipal bridges and county-village road bridges with relatively typical seismic damages.

As the valuable historical data and research materials, the book provides reference for the relevant researchers and concerned people.

Chen Lesheng, Chief Engineer of Sichuan Provincial Transportation Department, engaged, for years, in survey, design and construction of highways, bridges and tunnels and recently focusing on seismic research in highways of Wenchuan Earthquake. He has been successively rewarded with one Second-prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, one Second-prize of Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award and one First-prize of China Highway and Transportation Society Science and Technology Progress Award. As the chief editor, he has edited such collections as Albums of Highway Damages of Wenchuan Earthquake and Survey on Highway Earthquake Damages of Wenchuan Earthquake.
