This is the volume of 5th China-Japan Geotechnical Symposium. It contains 77 papers which consist of 37 papers from China and 40 papers from Japan. The theme of the papers is the new advances in geotechnical engineering. The topics about the theme include:underground space utilization, environmental geotechnical engineering, ground improvement and reinforcement, risk management and hazard mitigation, pile and foundation engineering, tunneling, seismic engineering, soil behavior and constitutive modeling, numerical simulation, case histories, “3.11 big earthquake” induced geotechnical problems in Japan.
This volume's purpose is to exchange information and share experience in the field of urban geo-technology for researchers, engineers and project managers form both Japan and China.
CISMGE-CCES, the Chinese Institution of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering - the China Civil Engineering Society was established in 1953. It is aim to carry out the soil mechanics and foundation engineering academic exchanges. The society joined the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering in 1957 and has played a significant role on the international stage since then.
JGS, the Japanese Geotechnical Society was established in 1949 and had a total of 122 members. Its purpose was to promote technical advances and research activities in the field of geotechnical engineering. It is one of the largest and most active societies among the more than 100 such societies in existence in Japan. The Society joined the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering in 1950 and has played a significant role on the international stage since then.
